Welcome to Cora Dance

Headed by Artistic Director Shannon Hummel, the members of Cora Dance have a wide and diverse range of teaching experience. The company has taught and performed at Rutgers University (NJ), The College of William & Mary (VA), Queensborough College (NY), James Madison University (VA) as well as offering classes and workshops to young people in a wide range of circumstances – from free workshops for kids in Red Hook’s Mother Cabrini Park to a weeklong residency in Scotch Plains, New Jersey’s McGinn Elementary School. CORA has also presented work for specifically created for children as part of DanceWave, Inc.’s Kids Café Festivals, Spoke the Hub’s Local Produce Festivals, Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s Groundhog Series and Dance Theater Workshop’s Family Matters Series with a special commission for the development of new work for kids and families from Dance Theater Workshop/New York State Dance Force.

Community Work:
Dedicated to developing access to the arts in isolated communities and rural places, Cora has developed and participated in community based projects in Harrisonburg/Rockingham County, Virginia; Shepherdstown, West Virginia; and Whitesburg, Kentucky as well as offering free summer dance workshops for children in Mother Cabrini Park in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The company strives to create access and interest in contemporary dance is communities who do not have a great deal of access to the arts.
